About Us
Patna Book Fair began its journey in 1985 as a traditional book fair with a simple yet powerful vision — to promote reading and connect people with knowledge. The initiative was started by the Bihar Rajya Pustak Vyavsayi Sangh with the support of the Federation of Educational Publishers in India, laying the foundation for what would become one of the region’s most significant educational and cultural gatherings.
Over the decades, the fair has evolved far beyond a marketplace for books, transforming into a vibrant educational and cultural festival. Today, Patna Book Fair is a dynamic platform where literature meets art, education blends with culture, and creativity finds expression in multiple forms. What started as a celebration of books has grown into a space that nurtures ideas, talent, and community engagement across diverse fields including:
Books and publishing
Visual arts
Performing arts
Music and dance
Cultural programs
Educational activities and discussions
For generations, the fair has served as a meeting ground for readers, students, educators, artists, and families — encouraging learning, dialogue, and cultural exchange while contributing significantly to the intellectual and cultural landscape of the region. Patna Book Fair is not just an event, but a celebration of ideas, creativity, and collective growth.
Today, the fair is organised by Centre for Readership Development ( CRD), which continues to carry forward its legacy with a strong commitment to education, culture, and community engagement. Through its efforts, CRD has further strengthened the fair’s vision by expanding its scope into a comprehensive festival that provides opportunities for publishers, authors, artists, performers, and cultural practitioners to engage with the public and contribute to society’s educational and cultural development.
Together, this legacy of knowledge, culture, and community continues to inspire generations and enrich society through meaningful and inclusive cultural experiences.
